You can now open your existing company file in your new version of QuickBooks Desktop. You can also save the backup in a specific folder by clicking the Change this default location. QuickBooks will automatically create a backup of your existing company file before you upgrade.Then, log in to your company file as an admin user. Browse your computer and locate your company file.If you have a backup company file ( QBB) instead of a company file ( QBW), select Restore a backup copy and then Local backup. Choose Open a company file, then click Next.You can also go to the File menu and select Open or Restore Company. Open your new version of QuickBooks Desktop.Ensure all users are logged out before opening, then follow these steps below: Once done, QuickBooks will prompt you to upgrade your company file as you open the newest version. Run the Rebuild Tool for your company file to preps it for the upgrade.See in the File Information section and take note where you saved your company file on your computer.On your keyboard, press F2 to open the Product Information window.Then, open the company file you want to upgrade. Open your original version of QuickBooks.Then, prep your company file and upgrade it. First, you'll need to log in to Windows as an admin user. You'll need to upgrade your company files so you can continue using them in your latest version. I'm happy to provide some additional information on the transfer process as well. You should have no issues downloading QBDT 2012 to port over the files to a newer version.
